Grandma’s banana bread

NAFDA Grandmas banana bread

  • 1 cup castor sugar
  • 125gm unsalted butter
  • ½ tsp bicarb soda
  • 3 bananas mashed
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1½ cup self-raising flour
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence


  1. Cream the butter and sugar
  2. Add well-beaten eggs then the bananas mashed with vanilla
  3. Add bicarb soda to milk
  4. Mix alternatively with flour
  5. Bake in a square tin or a loaf tin for 45 minutes at 180C, or if fan-forced on 170C
  6. Ice with tangy lemon icing or cream cheese icing when cooled
